welcome to Year 3 summer 2022
Our year 3 team is Mrs Hird and Mrs Ireland. Mrs McCann will teach the class on a Wednesday morning.
Our topic for the Summer Term is the Romans.
This half term we will be looking at Fairy Tales, Discussions, Non chronological Reports and Performance Poetry.
Our class books will be:
In maths we will continue to follow a mastery approach and we will look at: Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Geometry (position and direction), Place Value, Measurements (money and Time). We will have daily arithmetic lessons. We will be working hard on our Times Tables. Children leaving Year 3 are expected to know the 2,5,10, 3, 4, 8 multiplication facts, and their corresponding division facts. To help us achieve this please encourage your child to practise every day.
In Science we will be looking at Light.
We will recognise that we need light in order to see things. Explore how light is reflected from surfaces. Recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object. Look for patterns in the way that the size of shadows change. Recognise that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect our eyes.
PE Days will be Thursday and Friday for the first half of the term. However, with the warmer weather we may change this and children should have their PE kit in school every day.
As your child is now in the juniors, there is an expectation that they take responsibility for their own belongings. Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled. No toys or pencils cases are allowed in school.
We ask for the children to only bring their water bottle, packed lunch and book bag in to school. We cannot accommodate rucksacks or large bags.
Please remind your child to hand any letters that may need to be collected to a member of staff. Reading book should be brought in to school every day.
In class we will be looking at the Year Three spelling rules. Homework will be set each Friday on Ed Shed. This work will be related to the work we have completed in class.
Reading - Please listen to your child read every night and ask lots of questions to ensure they understand what they have read. This should take approximately 10 minutes. Ensure you record that your child has read in the Reading Diary. Books will be checked weekly by an adult in school. Children must put their book folder in the box every day. Children who read regularly find writing easier, they see sentence structure, learn new words and fuel their imaginations.
My Maths homework will be set weekly on a Friday and should be completed by the following Friday.
Timetables. Children in Year 3 should now know their 2s, 5s and 10s and are now working on 3s,4s and 8s. Please support your child in learning their times tables at home. Children will be tested weekly on their times tables.
All children have log in details for Times Tables Rock Stars. Please encourage them to access this website at home.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year
