Year 3
Welcome back

Back to School

Welcome back to the new school year and Year 3.

Please read with your child daily and support them in learning their times tables. Children will receive a Reading Challenge treat if they read the allocated amount of times this half term and will be given a Golden Ticket to a prize draw for every times table they are secure in.

Important Year 3 information

PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please ensure all items of PE kit are clearly labelled and in school. They will remain in school until half term. Please ensure you have removed any earrings on this day as children will not be able to do PE with earrings in. Please note that adults in school are not allowed to remove the earrings and plasters over earrings are not permitted.

Some PE lessons will be outdoors so tracksuit trousers/leggings would be advisable.

As your child is in now in the juniors, there is an expectation that they take responsibility for their own belongings.  Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled. The children will be encouraged to place any belongings in their own tray within the classroom. No toys or pencils cases are allowed in school.

We ask for the children to only bring their purple book bags into school and their PE kits in a small pump bag. We cannot accommodate rucksacks and school books can get damaged in these large bags.

Please remind your child to hand any letters that may need to be collected to a member of staff rather than leaving it in their reading bag.  Children also need to take their reading books out of their bags and place in an allocated reading book box every morning to be checked.

Spellings -

Year 3 and 4 are holding a Spelling Bee to encourage the children to learn to spell the 100 words in the Year 3/4 list.

Children will be tested every Monay on words they have been given to learn throughout the week. Children need to score 9/10 on each test to move onto the next set of words. The children will receive a certificate for each set of words completed correctly. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond certificates. Please try and encourage your children to practice their spellings.

Reading - Please listen to your child read every night and ask lots of questions to ensure he/she understands what they have read. This should take approximately 10 minutes. Ensure you record that your child has read in the Reading Diary. Books will be checked daily by an adult to mark off any reading at home, counting towards the reading challenge. Children must put their book in the box daily for the count to take place.

Mathletics homework will be set weekly on a Friday and should be completed by the following Monday.

Timetables. Children in Year 3 should now know their 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and will be working on 3’s,4’s and 8’s throughout this year. Please support your child in learning their times tables at home. Children will be tested weekly on their times tables.

Homework challenges will be set each half term linked to our Topic. There will be a choice of creative and fun activities to choose from that can be brought in weekly and displayed in the classroom. The children will earn Dojo points for each piece of homework that is handed in. Your child will have been given a copy of the homework challenges or please click this link to access this.
