Year 4



I hope you had a fantastic Summer and are ready for Year 4! This year our team will be Miss Baines as Class Teacher and Mrs Thornton as Teaching Assistant. Miss Shaw will cover on Thursday afternoons. 


This term our topic is: 

Sparks Might Fly

 In Science, we will be learning about electricity. Across the curriculum, we will be planning, making and evaluating products which use electrical circuits.

Other Important Information


PE is on Tuesday and Thursday.

Please ensure you have the correct kit in school, including correct footwear. Trainers and tracksuit bottoms/leggings will be allowed for outdoor lessons.


Brass Lessons will take place on Wednesday afternoons. There will be a concert for parents at the end of each term to celebrate what the children have learnt.

Please ensure instruments are in school each week and report any problems so these can be passed on to Mr Dawson.


This half term, the children will be given a Sparks Might Fly Homework Challenge Sheet


 Reading - should be completed every night. The focus should be on Comprehension

Remember: every time you read your school reading book and get a parent to sign your diary, you will receive a mark towards the Reading Challenge Reward. This half term you need to read at least 30 times to be able to receive the treat.



Times tables - need to be learnt on a weekly basis.

Children should know their tables up to

12 x 12 by the end of year 4. 


This half term, Years 3 and 4 will be continuing the Spelling Bee challenge. The children will work their way through the 100 Year 3/4 words from the National Curriculum to achieve certificates.


Activities will be set each Thursday and need to be completed by Tuesday. 


Class Dojo



Remember to connect to ClassDojo to see how your child is earning points and checking in on what is going on in class on the Class Story.

We will aim to update the Class Story weekly and encourage parents to check their child's progress throughout the week. There will be times that we will use the messaging aspect of Class Dojo for communication so please look out for any messages and feel free to send any messages to ask any questions or let us know of anything.
